History

Gaston & Wyatt was founded in 1979 with the goal of creating millwork that honored the timeless beauty and craftsmanship of the country’s most iconic homes. The firm soon established a national reputation and achieved such success that we were selected to do significant work on important homes and buildings around the country, including historic gems like Charlottesville’s own UNESCO World Heritage site, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. Such prestigious commissions continue to this day in our own region as well as in New York, Palm Beach, Boston, and San Francisco in partnership with many of the country’s leading architects and builders.

Gaston & Wyatt continued its remarkable growth as a forward-thinking company and, by the late 1990s, expanded into the sale of Marvin and other high-quality windows, doors, and hardware. These architectural product offerings uniquely position Gaston & Wyatt as a turnkey solution for any project.

Our award-winning firm continues to grow under a seasoned leadership team who directs operations from a 65,000-square-foot facility. As we forge new customer relationships and nurture existing ones, we remain true to the distinct qualities that made Gaston & Wyatt what it is today.

Entry Level Cabinet Finisher

For nearly fifty years, Gaston & Wyatt has quietly built a reputation as one of the country’s leading providers of architectural millwork, windows, doors, and other products from our home in Charlottesville, VA. Our award-winning work around the country has been featured in numerous national publications such as Architectural Digest, Veranda, and House Beautiful. We are now seeking an entry-level cabinet finisher to join our growing team.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Sanding, prepping, and staining for a wide range of wood products.
Assist with maintaining DEQ records and ensuring proper safety procedures are followed.
Clean and maintain equipment and work area in the finishing department.
Ensure a quality product is prepped before sending it to the next step in the finishing process.
Organize and maintain the sanding area's tools and equipment.
Assist finishers in meeting daily production requirements. Requirements while maintaining consistently high-quality product standards. This may involve assisting in larger projects or sanding and staining projects independently.
Perform special projects and complete all other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Must maintain a high degree of personal and environmental safety, including properly handling paints and solvents and wearing masks, earplugs, and other devices essential to protect your safety.
Must tolerate working in an environment with fumes, noise, dust, and other elements necessary for a finishing operation.
Interact professionally with both internal and external customers.
Excellent attitude and communication skills.
Willing to learn and accept new challenges.
Keen eye for fine detail.
Understand proper sanding techniques and the use of orbital hand-held sanders.
Able to adapt to changing priorities and deal with stressful situations.
Production-oriented in approach and ability to plan and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements & Work Demands:

This position will require you to work in a non-climate-controlled shop environment.
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, climb, bend, kneel, squat, and climb ladders to access all parts that need sanding.
Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. consistently and 75 lbs. occasionally.
